India Techie Shares the Benefits of Working in Sweden – All You Need to Know

An Indian software developer living in Sweden, named Ashutosh left the netizens in awe after sharing a video about the generous employee benefits he receives while working there. His post on Instagram detailed the perks that are standard in Sweden, but considered a luxury in many other countries. Among major benefits, full-time employees in Sweden receive 30 days of paid vacation every year. Moreover, to avail these leaves, Ashutosh just needs to inform his boss.
Interestingly, most offices allow employees to leave early before public holidays. New joiners are often welcomed with the latest iPhone and a laptop. Companies operating in the country also prioritises the employee’s wellbeing by offering wellness allowances between ₹30,000-40,000 on a yearly basis.
Employees who are working-from-home are provided allowances in the range of ₹30,000-40,000. This is done to help employees create a comfortable home-cum-office space. Additionally, a monthly lunch allowance of ₹10,000 is standard across many firms.
One of the most standout benefits is the parental leave policy. Parents are eligible for 480 days of leave, wherein it covers 80% of their salary. Job security is also the key highlight of Sweden’s work culture, strongly supported by organized workers’ unions. These unions not only protect employment rights but also provide financial assistance for up to 6–9 months in the event of job loss.
Ashutosh’s video went viral on social media as many netizens had mixed views. While many appreciated the progressive work culture, some users highlighted potential drawbacks of living in Sweden, particularly its long, dark winters that can affect mental health.
